| Created in 2005, the Kentucky Sports Authority actively pursue any and all athletic events with the goal of bringing them to the Commonwealth- resulting in jobs, tourism and economic development.
From amateur events to Olympic qualifiers to international championships, the Kentucky Sports Authority conveys to rights holders, tournament directors and organizations that Kentucky is a premier state in which to host athletic events.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to play host to world-class events such as the PGA Championship, the Breeders Cup, and the Rolex Three-Day Event,” said the Governor. “But that has largely been due to happenstance. Now we have a group that will pursue those kinds of events with a cohesive, aggressive, unified strategy.”
Currently, the Sports Authority is involved in a number of international projects such as the 2008 Ryder Cup and 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.The Sports Authority is also a marketing agency, leading a coordinated effort of Kentucky’s communities, and the state as a whole, to build the Commonwealth’s image in the sports industry.

In 2006 the Sports Authority created "TEAM Kentucky" - a collection of communities from around the Commonwealth that serves as a marketing arm to the sports industry. Whether at trade shows, information gathering, sales appointments or through advertising, TEAM Kentucky allows Kentucky’s communities to more competitive in bringing sports events to the state, and the economic impact they bring with them.
Mission Statement: The Kentucky Sports Authority is the statewide agency responsible for working with individuals, communities, and other entities in the Commonwealth to attract, retain, create and promote professional and amateur sporting events, conventions, franchises and organizational headquarters for Kentucky. Its purpose is to generate tourism, economic development, jobs and positive media exposure as well as promote exercise and wellness through sports activities.
