Appoval and Applications Available for 2008 Ryder Cup Specialty Plates
For
the next five years, the Commonweatlh of Kentucky is playing host to
a number of international events, such as the 2008 Ryder Cup to be
held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. For each of these international
events, Kentucky is looking to create new ways to put their signature
on each experience. Between communication with the Kentucky Sports
Authority, 2008 Ryder Cup Task Force, the PGA, and the Department of
Transportation, the creation of the 2008 Ryder Cup Specialty License
Plate is an impression sure to last a long time.
The 2008 Ryder Cup Specialty License Plate, which received final approval at the Ryder Cup Task Force meeting on April 5, will serve not only as a promoter of the event, but also as a reminder of the great things happening in Kentucky and as a symbol of how all of the organizations listed above are giving back to the community. The application fee for the tag is $38, with $25 going towards the general fee for any state specialty license tag, $3 fee instituted by the Department of Transportation, and the remaining $10 earned from each tag will go to benefit the Kentucky First Tee charity.
The First Tee is a World Golf Federation initiative dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop through golf and character education, and through life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. There are four First Tee Chapters in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (Louisville, Lexington, Owensboro, Pine Mountain). Funds raised through this program will be distributed equally to the four chapters.
In order for the production of license plates to begin, 900 applications must be returned with payment to 2008 Matches (c/o Kentucky Sports Authority) by September 30, 2007.
Applications for the 2008 Ryder Cup Specialty License Plate can be
obtained from the Kentucky Sports Authority website, www.kysportsauthority.com,
or by contacting the office directly through email at kysportsauthority@ky.gov,

General Manager Named for Bank
of Kentucky Center in Northern Kentucky
President and CEO Wes Westley is pleased to announce that SMG has chosen Les Crooks to take on the role of General Manager at the new Northern Kentucky University Bank of Kentucky Center. The 10,000-seat venue is slated to open in fall 2008.
"Les Crooks is one of our very best managers," said Hank Abate, Vice President of Arenas for SMG. "Given the importance of the new NKU facility and the dynamics of what will be a very hot market, I think Les will be a perfect fit."
Crooks has held several positions with SMG since joining the company as a marketing manager for the Baton Rouge Rivercenter in 1999. Most recently, he has been employed as the General Manager of Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikesville. He also worked on the first ever concert held at the legendary Kentucky racetrack, Churchill Downs, in September 2006. Prior to joining SMG, Crooks had spent the previous eight years working in minor professional sports and with NCAA institutions. He holds both a B.A. and M.B.A from the University of Dayton.
"I look forward to the challenge of managing the Bank of Kentucky
Center, for which SMG has a fantastic partner in Northern Kentucky
University," said Crooks. "My experience has prepared me
well for this opportunity. In no time, we expect this venue to become
the premier entertainment destination in the tri-state area."
